The Butterfly Effect
What is the Butterfly Effect? When a butterfly flutters its wings in one place, it affects something else that may be seemingly unaffected. When you think a thought or feel a feeling, it affects another part of your body or something around the world that you may not know is affected.
In our bodies, everything begins in the gut. 70% of our immune system is in our gut. We have more neurons in our enteric nervous system than in our spine. Health begins with what we eat, how we eat, why we eat, when we eat, and how we feel about what we eat or when we are eating. What our body is able to do with all of the above influences our neurotransmitters, our brain, our hormones, our blood sugar, our sleep, our thinking, our feelings, our concentration, our productivity, our attitudes, and our energy for optimal exercise. And one little daily change can be like the butterfly’s wing’s flutter – it can make a big difference.
I think that when it comes to health that the best time to tend to it is before you need to. In that way it is like insurance or a will. You plan ahead so you are prepared. You take care of your health so you live a life you choose, so you are able to do what you enjoy and enjoy what you do, so you feel happy living in your body, mind and emotions. At danger of being philosophic, we are all essentially amazing spiritual beings. We want our bodies, minds, and emotions to reflect the essence of who we are. That could take some work, but as we change our habits, change what we love to do, how we love to feel, what and when we like to eat, sleep, move, or be still and quiet, it will become second nature. Health can become a way of life and a means for a better, more meaningful life.
